I hadn’t had an RC car since the late 80’s (Tamiya Striker), but always remembered my love for driving fast, and bashing hard with my brother and his Frog. I also remember how frustrating it was to break my Striker, and not be able to get parts to fix it (there was no internet, and no local hobby shop where I lived at the time).
Fast forward 35 years, I was desperately trying to find a hobby that my two young boys would like more than sitting in a dark room playing video games. Seeking something fun and outdoors, but also a blast for me at the same time, I found RC’ing again. The first time all three of us started bashing and jumping, I knew I had a hit on my hands. My boys were ecstatic!
Financially this was a little bit of a challenge, as I don’t like low quality stuff, and inevitably you always break a basher. Additionally, the semi local hobby shops only seem to carry the large name brand hobby grade RC products (you know the two), but my personal favorite brands seemed to be lacking in support and parts. With the hobby shop being a 45 min trip each way (we live somewhat in the country), I was driving an hour and a half every time one of my boys hit a curb at 50 mph! I felt like I was back in the 80’s, trying to find Striker parts again.
In February of 2021, after many afternoon long trips to the hobby shop that resulted in getting only half the parts I needed, I decided that I can’t be the only person who goes through this frequently. With a little savings and determination, I launched Built4SpeedRC in April of 2021 with one goal in mind:
